The three-axle hydraulic steering bogie trailer, manufactured by German company Doll Fahrzeugbau, has a combination carrying capacity of more than 60t and a steering angle of 55°.
The additional capacity provided by the trailer is suitable for long cargoes such as steel bridge beams and wind turbine components, says Collett. Other advantages include increased ground clearance, extra stability and improved manoeuvrability. Capacity can be adapted to reach more than 60t with the addition of a four-axle tractor.
The first project completed using the trailer was the transport of 14 40m-long, 50t steel beams from Northallerton in north Yorkshire to Middlesbrough for coating, then to the final destination in Chester.
