“In the history of sling standardisation, the synthetic roundsling has remained the one and only type of sling wherein the actual load-bearing material is hidden from the sling user for visual inspection,” the company says. “Inspection and removal criteria rely almost entirely upon the appearance and condition of a cover, a cover with no rated capacities.”
According to the company, the industry has improved roundslings in two ways: by using higher-strength core yarn fibres to make higher-capacity slings, and by choosing a heavier-duty cover. But, First Sling Technology says, such covers hide defective core yarns, or yarn deterioration.
The transparent covers are claimed to weigh less, dry faster and be as hard-wearing as opaque covers.
