The cranes, which have maximum lifting capacities of 135t, 110t and 80t respectively, are being used to move precast concrete elements of the wastewater storage tanks, control room and other structures, as well as formwork, rebar and piling reinforcement cages.
Once complete, the plant will treat water from the Elan Valley in Wales, which arrives at Frankley Reservoir by gravity feed along the Elan aqueduct with a gradient of 1-in-2,300m and supplies drinking water to Birmingham and the surrounding area.
The DNM Alliance, a joint venture between North Midland Construction and Doosan Enpure, was awarded the £100m contract to design and build a new water treatment plant at Frankley, which forms part of Severn Trent Water’s £300m Birmingham Resilience Project, with work starting in late 2017, with completion scheduled for 2020.
