The two new cranes each have a 100t lifting capacity and a maximum radius of 44m. They have been shipped from Gottwald’s factory in Germany and are due to start commercial operations in September. Initially they will be used for container handling alongside ships up to standard class, but Poti Sea Port has said it is considering using them to handle bulk materials in the future. Gottwald said the cranes allow high speed changing of the lifting gear, making them ideal for this specification.
“We opted for mobile harbour cranes from Gottwald because we need a handling machine that is both economical and universally applicable,” said Rony Saab, general director of Poti Sea Port. “The new cranes will open up new opportunities for us, making us more flexible and helping us to continue to increase the competitive advantage of our port.”
It is the second set of HMK 260 E mobile harbour cranes Gottwald has sold into Georgia in a year, with the two other cranes operating at the Batumi International Container Terminal.
“The entire Black Sea region is an important operational area for Gottwald mobile harbour cranes of various sizes and performance ratings,” said Gottwald’s regional sales manager, Jan Lind.
“I am pleased that, last year, we were able to gain a foothold in Georgia and that the Poti Sea Port has now also placed its trust in us.”
