THIS month Demag Gottwald ships two HSK 360 EGL rail mounted portal harbour cranes to the Qinhuangdao Port Authority in China and next January it will deliver two HSK 260 EG portal cranes to the Port Autonome de Bordeaux in France.

This will make nine Gottwald HSK models operating worldwide.

The HSK 260 EG series has recently evolved from the HMK mobile harbour crane series. ‘Combining Gottwald’s field-tested mobile harbour crane technology from the slewing ring upwards and a newly tailored chassis approach, the HSK series is designed to meet individual customer needs while ensuring maximum reliability,’ said Gottwald R&D director Manfred Beyer. The HSK series ranges from the HSK 170 EG with a capacity of 22.7t at 40m radius to the HSK 360 EGL which lifts 50t at 48m.

The two HSK 360 EGL cranes for China are the largest portal harbour cranes that Gottwald has ever built. Equipped with a four-rope grab, these units will operate on a newly constructed quay, unloading iron ore from ships into hoppers on the quay with a capacity of 1,500t per hour. To span the conveyor belts transporting the ore, the cranes have a portal width of 13.4m.
