Gottwald Port Technology has completed the installation of its first WSG wide span gantry crane. The WSG was added to Gottwald’s product range in early 2003 and the first customer was the COBI Container-Terminal AG near Basel, Switzerland.
The crane, with a span of 63m and cantilever lengths of 32m on the quayside and 21.5m on the landward side, was installed at its new home by the Rhine in December 2003. Components were bolted together on site in just eight days, minimising disruption to the terminal operations. The crane has a 52t lifting capacity on the ropes and one-over-five container stacking capability. Features include a crane management system, position encoding and remote diagnostics.
In the next few months, three more wide span gantries will be handed over to the operating company at Container-Terminal Kaiserwörth Hafen in Ludwigshafen. Five more have been ordered for the new HUPAC Intermodal Terminal Gallarate in Italy.
