Launch of the RT 800E at the Manitowoc Crane Group Expo in September completes the renewal of Grove’s rough terrain range, a process that began with the launch of the 30t RT 530E four years ago at Conexpo 1999.
The RT 800E, rated at 80 US ton (75t), replaces both the RT 875C and the 875BXL, offering longer boom, greater capacity, lower overall height and an hydraulic counterweight removal system.
The sequenced synchronised, full power, five section boom extends from 11.6m to 43.3m (38ft to 142ft), to reach a maximum tip height of 45.7m (150ft). The 9.5m-17m (31-56ft) lattice swingaway extension is offsettable at 0, 20 and 40 degrees. With swingaway, maximum tip height is 62.4m (205ft). Hydraulic powered luffing on the swingaway is an option.
With two 4.8m (16ft) lattice inserts, the boom can be extended to give a maximum tip height of 72m (236ft). In comparison, the maximum tip height of the RT 865 BXL was 62.2m, and the RT 875C reached 58.9m.
The cab, like on the larger RT 9130E, tilts to 20 degrees. The PAT load moment system includes a work areas definition systems as standard, allowng the operator to programme in permitted and prohibited working zones.
The engine is a Cummins QSB 5.9L disel, six cylinders, rated at 205kW (275hp at 2,200rpm. The transmission is a full powershift with six forward and three reverse speeds. A front axle disconnect is provided for 4×2 travel.
The crane was unveiled to customers at a series of ‘Product Expo’ open days held during the last week of September at Grove’s factory in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, USA. Visitors also learned that Grove has produced 28,000 RTs since 1961, 10,000 truck cranes and has delivered more than 1,000 GMK cranes into North America since buying Krupp in 1995.
