Grove Worldwide is closing its UK facility in Bicester and has laid off most of the employees in the wake of its aerial work platform alliance with scissor manufacturer Skyjack.
Grove and Skyjack have decided that while Grove will distribute and support the two companies’ AWP products in France and Germany, Skyjack UK will look after the UK.
Grove believes that it cannot justify keeping the Bicester offices and workshop open just for its crane business. Only seven of the 50 employees are being kept on, most of whom are crane sales staff. The seven will be redeployed to other, yet to be determined, locations.
Service support for Grove cranes in the UK has now been wholly outsourced to Glasgow-based Samuel Walker. Samuel Walker has worked with Grove since 1974, repairing and servicing cranes in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. Its is expanding its service team to support Grove customers across the whole of the UK and Ireland.
