The crane was delivered to the Shell MEG petrochemical complex on Jurong Island, Singapore, where it will be used on a long term project.

Patrick Ng, director of Hiap Tong, highlighted two advantages of the crane in this type of environment. First, “At least one day will be saved with the time needed to assemble the lattice jib when compared with the Liebherr crawler, taking just one hour to set up.” Perhaps more importantly, in the restricted working environment of a petrochemical site, “The large area of ground needed to layout a lattice jib is not required with the Liebherr unit.”

The maximum lifting capacity of the LTR 1100 is 100 t. It offers a 52m telescopic boom, a 19m folding jib and two 7m lattice boom extensions. The maximum hook height is 83m and the maximum lifting radius is 60m. It will be used for a variety of lifting duties including pipework, tanks and process vessels.

Hiap Tong has a second unit on order and due to arrive in July. The company says that it is looking to use the cranes to open up new rental markets, outside of its current base in Singapore. It believes the crane will be particularly attractive for wind turbine jobs.
