The temporary structure consists of 16 galvanised steel columns placed in Trinity Square, outside Hull Minster, each one 6m-high.
Hird was commissioned to carry out a contract lift to lift the structures into place, and provided a crane operator and a rigger to carry out the project. The company chose the Valla 75E electric pick and carry crane, which has a 7.5t capacity, to carry out the lifts.
“The pick and carry crane’s compact design and mobility allowed it to precisely place the steel cylinders in the exact spots required by the artist,” said Hird.
Visitors can go inside the columns to experience the changing light conditions created by perforations in the steel skin.
