A special version of the EH 50 monorail hoist from J D Neuhaus has been supplied to a US marine shipyard to handle and manipulate ship segments.
The hoist had to be able to handle 60t even though the nominal load would only be 46t. The EH 50 unit (with a nominal capacity of 50t) is said to have proved the ideal solution as it had 25% overload rating, effectively increasing this to 62.5t.
Based on a concept of two driving mechanisms instead of four, the EH 50 hoists are claimed to be compact enough to operate in areas where heavy loads have to be lifted in confined spaces. Thanks to the use of compressed air as the driving medium, the hoists can also be used in hazardous areas where there is the potential of explosion.
