Huisman is in the final stages of supplying another offshore mast crane for another Subsea 7 vessel, the “Seven Borealis”, which will feature a 600mt S-lay system.
The IHC Offshore and Marine Shipyard will build the vessel in Krimpen aan den Ijssel in the Netherlands.
Huisman will install the crane on board the vessel, along with a 550mt Flex-lay system and at its location in Schiedam, Netherlands. Delivery of the equipment is scheduled for 2014.
Operating at full capacity in depths of up to 3,000m, the 400t mast crane is outfitted with a deepwater lowering system, as well as an active heave compensation system, which are designed to improve the ease of landing the load on the seabed.
Huisman said its 550t Flex-lay system ranks among the larger capacity Flex-lay systems onboard any pipelay vessel. The system is being designed for installing flexible pipelines in water depths of in 3,000m.
Huisman explained the tower of its Flex-lay system, “The tower is tiltable to allow connection of flexible risers to rigid pipelines which are retrieved from the seabed.”
Huisman said that the Flex-lay system uses retractable tensioners, which allow for safe and efficient A&R and PLET installation procedures, and aids in handling umbilicals. The company says its ‘Squeeze Control System’, part of Flex-lat, allows for accurate control of squeeze loads.
