The tower crane giant has a 270ft (82m) jib length, at which maximum tip load is 14 US tons (13t). The crane is working at a tip height of about 200ft (61m). It has a line pull of 50t on a single 2 1/8in (54mm) hoist cable. “It’s amazing when people talk like that,” said Ralph Grande, operations manager of crane owner, Bechtel Equipment.
The $3.5m crane will be used to lift ductwork and reinforcing steel in a three-year Bechtel project to expand the plant and improve its emissions, Grande says. Cornell Cranes also supplied diesel-powered TT19 and GG2300 Favelle-Favco tower cranes for the job.
He says that the job required a long reach. “The crane is removing material off of barges, that is the only accessible side, and setting them into the building itself.”
The crane was erected and carried out its first lift in September.
