The 50t capacity crane has been installed at the shipyard’s newly constructed dock, with a 60m-long jib and a height under hook of 43.2m. The new dock is capable of handling ships with a dead weight tonnage of 50,000t, while the shipyard is Indonesia’s second largest.
PT Waruna owns 50 ships working on the Indonesian market, except one, which is working in Vietnam. These range from tankers and tugs, to boats and barges.
The specific requirements of PT Waruna meant Manitowoc had to make a number of adjustments to the crane at its Zhangjiagang facility in China. This included adjustments to allow it to sit atop a 8m x 8m portal, and travel along a 130m track so it can operate across the full 200m x 37m dock.
The 8m x 8m portal has been designed to allow trucks to pass underneath the crane and transport materials that can then be lifted directly into the dock. Loads the MD 1100 will pick include steel plates, hatch covers, propellers and propeller shafts. The heaviest of these loads is the 25t hatch cover.
