The contract for German crane builder Kocks will see Converteam put in its ProCrane drives. Each 73t capacity crane will be equipped with a drive with a total power rating of up to 1,700kW.
Converteam said ProCrane offers a number of advantages to the operation of the cranes, including variable speed operation of the drives with the use of motor pulse inverters, and a common DC link for energy exchange between the rectifiers on the supply side and motor pulse inverters, which allows operational efficiency of up to 97%.
The open and closed-loop control system is based on HPC LD2 controllers and is used to monitor the entire crane installation. Sophisticated measuring systems and connection to the terminal operation system provide an overview of the crane status at all times.
All six cranes will be operational by 2011.
