Pneumatic hoist specialist JD Neuhaus has supplied a pair of special purpose hoists with 100t safe working load and a headroom of just 700mm. The UH 100 hoists are being used to handle a 200t blow out prevention (BOP) system for lowering a cap onto the wellhead of an offshore drilling rig.
The air-powered hoists have been fitted to the jack-up rig Chiles Discovery, built at the Amfels shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, USA. This rig will operate in the Gulf of Mexico in water depths up to 110m.
The Chiles Offshore Company has subsequently ordered a second hoist system for use with its drilling rig number five. This is scheduled for delivery this month.
