THE EXPANDING Eurogate container terminal in Hamburg, Germany has ordered three rail-mounted container handling crane systems from Austrian manufacturer Hans Künz. Order value is estimated to be around 7m Euros.
The cranes have a track width of 38.25m and overhangs of 15.5m on one side and 14.25m on the other. They will move containers between trains and trucks at this road/rail interchange. The crane systems, which will operate in a three-shift cycle, will take up operation during the course of next year.
Also in Germany, Künz has taken an order worth 3m Euros from commercial airliner manufacturer Airbus Deutschland GmbH for five special crane systems.
There will be two 4-point support suspension crane systems each with a span of 65m for the transport of aircraft fuselages and two 2-point support wing transport cranes each with a span of 30m. The fifth crane will be used to assemble the lateral tail unit.
In automatic mode the cranes will need a positioning accuracy of 20mm.
Airliner types A 318, A 319 and A 321 will undergo final assembly using the Künz equipment in a new assembly hall, 265m long and 65m wide, in Hamburg Finkenwerder, Germany.
