The expanding Eurogate container terminal in Hamburg, Germany has ordered three rail-mounted container handling crane systems from Austrian manufacturer Hans Künz The value of the order is estimated to be worth approximately Euro 7m.
The cranes have a track width of 38.25m and overhangs of 15.5m on one side and 14.25m on the other. They will move containers betweem trains and trucks at this road/rail interchange. The crane systems, which will operate in a three-shift cycle, will take up operation during the course of next year.
Other recent customers of Künz include the German Federal Railways, chemicals group BASF and terminal operator HHLA.Bremen-based Eurogate Group, with more than 4,000 employees and a turnover of 7.66m TEU (tonne equivalent units) per year, grew more than 20% last year. It is the world’s third biggest independent terminal operator (i.e. excluding those owned by shipping companies).
