Dockside equipment manufacturer Kalmar Industries has reorganised its branding arrangements in the wake of its acquisition in March of Dutch crane manufacturer Nelcon.
Nelcon’s rail-mounte^d gantry cranes for container handling will be branded as Kalmar, but its ship-to-shore and mobile harbour cranes will be sold under the banner Kalmar Nelcon. The Nelcon name will be kept here partly because Kalmar is new to this market but also to reflect the fact that selling ship-to-shore cranes is a different process from selling yard equipment.
At the Terminal Operations Conference in Lisbon, Portugal last month Kalmar announced an order for two Kalmar Nelcon ship-to-shore cranes for Uniport in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
All straddle carriers will be branded as Kalmar, including the new Shuttle Carrier, the launch of which was also announced at the Lisbon conference.
Further details of this product and its applications will be featured in next month’s issue of Cranes Today.
Kalmar has also expanded its range of terminal automation products with the addition of remote monitoring interface (RFI), a system which allows a single operator to monitor many machines from the control room.
