The manufacturer was enlisted to transport the STS crane from the customer’s Scania Terminal Quay 705 to the West Harbour, Helsingborg Quay 906.
Kalmar called on its Rotterdam-based Crane Services Competence Centre to handle the job, which was completed during a two-week time frame earlier this month.
According to Bengt Niklasson, manager of port infrastructure at the Port of Helsingborg, the team impressed by completing the lifting, moving and relocating aspects of the project during a single day.
He added: "Moving an STS crane is not an everyday occurrence and requires a highly specialist solution.
"It called for detailed crane stability calculations, structural stiffening of the main frame, ballast engineering and preparation of the barge to handle the 850 ton structure."
The project also required a number of structural modifications to be made in order to eliminate a 400mm difference in height between the crane rails at the new location.
