Hyundai’s new US car factory in Montgomery, Alabama will be equipped with KCI Konecranes overhead travelling cranes and lifting equipment when it opens in 2005.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama LLC will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles and engines. The combined manufacturing and assembly plant will produce the next generation designs of both the Sonata sedan and the Santa Fe sport utility vehicle (SUV) for the North American market.

KCI Konecranes has been contracted to supply nine heavy-duty stamping plant cranes including installation, start-up and operator training. The cranes will be built at the Konecranes America factory in Houston, Texas and delivery is scheduled to begin next month.

The cranes ordered by Hyundai incorporate many state-of-the-art automation and diagnostic features such as automated coil storage and retrieval, automated die handling, and automated scrap bale handling. All of the cranes include a remote diagnostic system which allows Konecranes and Crane Pro Services (Konecranes’ service organisation) to monitor the equipment from anywhere in the world.
