APM Terminals is part of the AP Moller/Maersk Group of Denmark, one of the world’s largest terminal operators, with more 30 terminals globally. APM Terminals already uses Konecranes RTGs at its terminals in Elizabeth, Norfolk and Houston, USA.
The 16-wheel all-electric RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50t and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide. The manufacturing of the new cranes will take place in both Europe and China.
The RTGs are fully equipped with modern technical features including DGPS autosteering, remote diagnostics, sway prevention and horizontal fine positioning systems.
Handling efficiency is achieved by high hoist, trolley and gantry speeds. KCI Konecranes’ own AC Frequency Control System comprises the most reliable drive for the RTGs. All features are electromechanical, with no hydraulics involved.
To date KCI Konecranes has delivered 57 RTGs to APM Terminals on the US east, west and gulf coasts.
Konecranes sales manager container handling Tuomas Saastamoinen said: “We were the first to launch a completely electromechanical RTG back in 1995 and today already in its third generation the Konecranes RTG boasts impressive performance and up-time statistics.”
He added: “We have now developed a solid presence in the US RTG market through the many repeat orders from existing customers and their testimonials have been extremely helpful when promoting our RTGs to new customers.”
