Konecranes VLC has won an order to supply six rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to APM terminals in New Jersey, USA.

The cranes will be manufactured in Europe and will be delivered, from June, fully erected to the terminal. These 16 wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50t, a lifting height of 18m and span of 23m. They are one-over-five containers high and six-plus-truck lane wide. Technical support will be provided through Konecranes’ harbour crane maintenance organisation, KCI Koneports Americas.

APM Terminals is part of the AP Moller/Maersk Group of Denmark, one of the world’s largest terminal operators, with more 30 terminals globally. APM Terminals already uses Konecranes RTGs at its terminals in Elizabeth, Norfolk and Houston, USA.

Konecranes introduced its new RTG crane five years ago and has since sold 136 of them, of which 70 units will be in operation on the East and Gulf Coasts of the USA after the delivery of these six cranes to APM Terminals.

Konecranes VLC is part of the KCI Konecranes Group’s Special Cranes business area and specialises in port, terminal and shipyard cranes.
