The crane is available as a variant of the standard 450t capacity SL4500, and has been designed in response to demand, and in close cooperation with, several key buyers around the world.

The SL4500 Light Configuration has a maximum load moment of 2,140tm, and maximum luffing jib configuration is 132m with 66m luffing boom and 66m luffing jib.

SL4500 Light Configuration

Base machine and boom base of the light configuration are common components with the standard configuration. But the transport width of the light configuration’s attachment is only 2.5m, which is the limit of normal transport widths in most countries in the world, allowing for easy and economic transport using high bed trailers, Kobelco said. A 151t counterweight reduces the number of trailers necessary to transport the crane and on-site assembly time is shortened.

Other changes in the light configuration model include: a new upper frame designed to increase sectional strength and optimise the frame’s stress capacity, enhancing rigidity while reducing weight; winches mounted on the boom base; hoisting winches that include wide, large-capacity drums on each level for high-speed rope hoisting; a swing cab, which swings and stows at the front of the base machine, reducing transport width of the upper machine to 3m; a Stage III-compliant engine; and inching control that reduces the machine’s hydraulic functions to a third of normal speed, for precise positioning and manoeuvring.
