KCI Koncecranes has taken a two-unit for its new rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes from Roadways Container Logistics Ltd, a UK-based subsidairy of P&O Nedlloyd. The RMGs will be used for transfering containers at a road/rail intermodal freight terminal in Birmingham.
The cranes are span 28m and can lift up to 40t, one over three containers high.
Ilpo Hakala, director of harbour and shipyard cranes at Konecranes, said: ‘KCI Konecranes has seen great success for its range of rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes. Today there is also a growing demand for rail mounted cranes, which created the need for a new construction.
‘The new design retains the best features of the proven Konecranes RTG technology, including its superior load control and all-electromechanical solution.’
The RMGs come with a rotating trolley and the Konecranes Active Load Control system, including sway prevention and fine positioning systems. They also have a remote diagnostics system.
