KCI Konecranes has operated a hoist assembly factory in Shanghai since November 2002, producing wire rope hoists and components for cranes of lower lifting capacities. The new factory is located adjacent to the hoist factory in Taopu, Putuo District at Futurity Island Industrial Park.
The new factory will focus on the production of heavy-duty lifting trolleys for special cranes and assembly of crane electrics. The factory houses a new facility for testing, and has a planned annual capacity of 400 to 500 trolleys. It has also been equipped to start the assembly of heavy-duty lift trucks.
The factory’s key customers are companies operating within the steel, paper, power, and general manufacturing industries.
Meanwhile, KCI Konecranes and R Stahl AG, of Waldenburg, Germany have agreed to continue negotiations concerning the possible sale of the latter’s material handling division.
This division – R Stahl Fördertechnik – generated €113million in sales in 2004, accounting for 46% of the R Stahl Group’s turnover.
R Stahl Fördertechnik is claimed to be a global leader in overhead material handling products including explosion proof technology, and of components such as chain and wire rope hoists and related maintenance services. The company has manufacturing sites in Künzelsau and Ettlingen, Germany, and has approximately 750 employees.
