KONECRANES VLC has won orders for 18 rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from terminal operators in North America in recent weeks.
In the USA, APM Terminals placed an order in December for six RTGs, for delivery from June, to be put into service at Elizabeth, New Jersey. A month later it placed a follow-up order for another six for Elizabeth, New Jersey, to be delivered in October, as well as two for Houston, Texas, to be delivered in August.
In Mexico, Operadora Portuaria de Manzanillo (OPM) has ordered four RTGs, for delivery from July.
All the cranes will be made in Europe and delivered fully erected. The 16 wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50t, a lifting height of 18m and span of 23m. They are one-over-five containers high and six-plus-truck lane wide.
Konecranes introduced its new RTG five years ago and has since sold 144 of them worldwide, of which 78 units will be in operation on the east and Gulf coasts of the USA after the latest APM orders are fulfilled. The Manzanillo order brings to more than 100 the total of the new design RTGs in operation in North and Central America.
