Jim Robertson, CEO of General Crane of Pompano Beach, Florida, has bought 60 Linden-Comansa tower cranes for $35m

The cranes have been sold to Jim Robertson, the owner of dealer General Crane of Pompano Beach, Florida for its own rental fleet. Some of the cranes may end up in Las Vegas, Nevada, through the crane rental company Republic Towers and Hoist that it partially owns, according to Matthew Dobbs, Linden-Comansa America vice president, sales for North America.

The crane order is heavily weighted in the 300 and 400 class, and some in the 550 class, Dobbs said. (The name refers to the capacity in tm).

“The 300 class is traditionally the most popular,” Dobbs said. “We are seeing size requirements going up, and the 400 has become the most popular. The formwork is bigger, and labour is more expensive, so contractors want to make bigger picks.”

General, one of 10 Linden-Comansa America dealers, will use the cranes to expand its own operations in south Florida, Dobbs said.

The order was completed in mid-July, and the cranes will be manufactured at Comansa’s plant in Spain. Deliveries will be rolled out over the next two years.

Linden-Comansa America is half owned by Linden-Comansa Spain, and half by Dennis Kenna, the owner of rental company Heede Southeast.
