Four new ship-to-shore container cranes, built by Dutch manufacturer Nelcon, have been installed at the Autonomous Port of Le Havre in France.

The four rail-mounted cranes have a safe working load of 78t, an outreach to sea of 45.2m and a lifting height above the quay of 33m. They represent a E23.5m investment by the port.

The cranes feature the latest generation ‘active solution’ AC variable speed drives of the electrical engineering company Alstom. Alstom Power Conversion has provided an integrated motor, drives and automation system using its ‘active energy management’ based ALSPA MV3000 converters. The active energy management, or AEM, technology has several claimed environmental benefits due to its performance efficiency.
