Beluga Hochtief will use the new crane on board a jack-up vessel for installing 5MW offshore wind turbines.
The new CAL 64000 – 1500 Litronic was produced following a redesign of Leibherrs’ production facilities in Rostock, Germany to accommodate its large components.
It has a lifting capacity of 1,500t at a radius of 31m, and a maximum height of 120m. The boom length Beluga Hochtief specified for the crane is 105m.
Key features of the ‘crane around the leg’ design include its 11m slewing ring which attaches around a jack-up vessel’s leg and rotate saround 360°.
In addition, the twin boom design allows the boom to be stored on another leg of the vessel, freeing up space on board. A slewing unit for loads of under 600t is available as an option.
Leibherr claims that the crane’s 12m obstruction area is smaller than that of other cranes.
The CAL 64000 – 1500 Litronic is an addition to Liebherr’s offshore crane range. Leibherr claims that it is the first heavylift offshore crane to be built in this design.
The crane will be transported in 600t pieces to the Crist Shipyard in Poland for assembly and should begin work in 2012.
