SGL Constructors, a joint venture between Skanska USA, Granite and Lane, is rebuilding parts of Interstate 4 in central Florida, one of the busiest motorways in the state.
The $2.3bn ‘I-4 Ultimate’ infrastructure project in Orlando, set to continue over the next six and a half years, comprises the construction and reconstruction of 15 interchanges and more than 145 bridges, as well as the rebuilding of lanes along a 21-mile stretch.
The order from Liebherr consists of LR1100, LR 1130 and LR1160 models, with capacities between 100-160t and all equipped with both free-fall winches and auxiliary winches, enabling the operator to use the cranes for regular lift work as well as with leader systems.
The cranes are designed for operation in the Florida climate, with an auxiliary power unit that allows the air conditioning to run while the engine is turned off, and lightning rods on the main boom head to prevent damages of the cranes’ electronics in the event of a lightning strike.
