The ABG order comprised six fully assembled cranes, shipped to the port of Haldia, about 50km southwest of Kolkata in West Bengal. The cranes have a maximum lifting capacity of 140t and are fitted with a 20 m³ and a 35 m³ four rope grab. The operator plans to have the cranes fully operational on site by mid-October.

Further down India’s east coast, the port of Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, about 200km from Chennai, recently broke national records for cargo handling speeds. The port used two Liebherr LHM 500 cranes to turn round the MV Cape Santa Alegria, working at an average handling rate of 1050 tonnes per hour (tph) and peaking at 1500tph. In 48 hours, the two cranes loaded a total cargo of 101,250t.

Liebherr has been selling harbour mobile cranes in India since 2004; so far it has shipped 32 of the cranes to the country.
