Liebherr Container Cranes, based in Killarney, has pre-sold 12 units of its first rubber tyred gantry (RTG) crane, which has yet to be unveiled.
The Killarney-based company, which earlier this year celebrated 40 years of manufacturing in the Republic of Ireland, has also received an order for four super post-panamax gantry cranes from MCT (Medcenter) for its Gio Tauro facility in Italy.
There is also an option for two additional cranes. Delivery is due before the end of next year.
Liebherr has also recently commissioned three super post-panamax gantry cranes at the port of Felixstowe in the UK.
Other dockside crane manufacturers with major contracts to report include:
Hyundai of Korea which has negotiated a $30m order from the South Carolina State Port Authority for four container cranes, to be installed at the Wando Welch Terminal in Charleston Port, USA by October 2000.
German-Brazilian consortium Noell Inepar has been named preferred bidder to supply two Panamax quay cranes to the Tecon container terminal in Santos, Brazil. Noell’s service division is already refurbishing three of Tecon’s existing five cranes under a $2.7m contract.
Mannesmann Dematic Gottwald has received a $7.5m order from Associated British Ports for three HMK 280 mobile harbour cranes for the Port of Immingham. The multi-purpose cranes have a lift capacity of 100t, can reach 50m, and can unload coal at an average of 500t per hour.
Konecranes VLC has taken an order for a ship-to-shore container crane to be delivered to the Port of Ventspils in Latvia. The 60t crane handles containers for Panamax size vessels and has sufficient capacity for the use of Twinlift. The value of the contract was not disclosed but it is estimated to be about FIM30m ($5.3m).
