Rental firm Shriro Machinery Ltd is using the crane on 31 Queen’s Central mixed office and retail class A tower.
The restricted site, bordered on two sides by high-rise buildings and busy thoroughfares, demanded a luffing jib crane. The Liebherr 160 HC-L is able to slew through 360° with the load suspended from the hook and offers a small slewing radius and raised jib angles from 15° to 70°, even when shutdown. The crane provides a maximum lifting capacity of 16t and 2t at its maximum radius of 55m.
The main contractor on the 28-storey tower, Gammon Construction, has developed more than 15 buildings in the Hong Kong central business district.
The site was originally occupied by the old Queen’s Theatre in 1929 and was later developed as the Luk Hoi Tong Building, an office and cinema complex. The new development will feature a gross floor area of 21,000 sq m.
