In Montevideo, Uruguay, Montecon has recently ordered two LHM 600s. Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) ordered four LHM 600s for its ports across Latin America, including the Buenos Aires Container Terminal in Argentina, which ordered its first LHM 600. HPH also ordered three LHM 600s for its ports in Mexico, one for Terminal Internacionale de Manzanillo and two for Lázaro Cárdenas Multipurpose Terminal.
Liebherr said that 2013 looked as if it would be the most successful ever year for LHM deliveries to Mexico, thanks in part to the HPH order.
The manufacturer has also received several LHM 600 orders from Brazil, including the city of Manaus, where Chibatão Navegação e Comércio purchased three LBS 600s.
Liebherr said that due to the high demand in the Latin American region the company had invested around $20m in a new sales and service centre in Miami, USA. The centre, opened in June, serves as a hub for Liebherr’s maritime cranes division, which the company hopes will further strengthen business relations to the Latin American region. The newly built complex is situated on a total property area covering around 40,000 sq m.
