The Lia Manoliu National Stadium, in the country’s capital Bucharest, is being rebuilt to provide seating for around 55,000 spectators. Construction work has included demolishing the existing stadium, which began in 2007, and building a new complex, which is set for completion in December 2010.

On site, a 245 EC-HM 8 FR.tronic with a 256 HC tower system has been mounted on rails, in order to provide better coverage over a larger area of the construction site. A 250 EC-B 12 Litronic and 200 EC-B 10 Litronic have also been mounted on the 256 HC tower system, and can achieve hook heights of 52.4m and 48.3m respectively, with both having a working radii up to 65m. Three 280 EC-H models, two configured to lift 12t and one with a capacity of 16t, are also working on the site, with hook heights up to 68.6m, and working radii between 65m and 70m. A 63 K fast-erecting tower crane is also supporting lifting operations on site.

The cranes are handling a variety of construction materials on site, including around 9,000t of steel, 75,000 cu m of cast-in-place concrete and 25,000 cu m of prefabricated components.

The job’s lifting equipment has been provided by Liebherr-Romania SRL, with support from Switzerland-based Liebherr-Export AG and the company’s production plant in Biberach, Germany.

Liebherr-Romania SRL is also supplying the crane operators and a support team available around the clock, to ensure the cranes can be put to work at any time.
