The 12.5t load was placed at a radius of 20m. ‘No other 100 tonner could do it,’ according to NZCH director Steve Handyside. Normally the roof element would have been assembled in situ, but pre-assembly on the ground offered considerable time savings. The reservoir was constructed by Timbertank Enterprises in Whitianga Township, more than 200km from NZCH’s Auckland base.
