A simple lifting option is the Tirfor lifting and pulling machine from Tractel. Tirfors are lever operated hoists with a separate wire rope of unlimited length. They can be operated by one person, using a telescopic handle, and will work in any orientation, horizontally, vertically or at an angle, and over any height of lift or pull. A Tirfor is an alternative to conventional winches and other hoists in many applications, can be used in all climates and are even used under the sea in the oil industry.

There are three pullers in the range, with lifting capacities of 800kg, 1,600kg and 3,200kg. The largest unit is available in two versions: the lightweight T500 series, designed for applications where it helps to have lightweight equipment, such as working at height; and the heavy duty TU series, which is designed for rigorous use in the construction and engineering industries.

Lifting and pulling capacity can be greatly increased by using multiple sheave blocks. The lifting safety factor is 5:1 and they are fitted with shear pins to prevent overloading.

Powered versions of the Tirfor use a self-reciprocating ram, which works the machine without any effort from the operator. These have benefits for repetitive or high lifts. Up to four Tirfors can be operated from one electric or I/C power pack. A pneumatic version is also available.
