The UK-based Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has published a handbook for those who test and examine lifting equipment.
The Lifting Engineer’s Handbook is a 128-page, pocket-size book that summarises the practical and theoretical information necessary to ensure test, verification and examination procedures are in line with UK regulations.
Specific subjects addressed include the principles of verifying equipment, basic procedures for thorough examination, and non-destructive tests. A wide range of product-specific information is also incorporated, covering commonly used equipment such as electric overhead travelling cranes, slewing jibs and slings.
An overview of relevant UK legislation is included, but the LEEA said that the Handbook’s emphasis on ‘good practice’ meant that it would also be useful internationally.
