LiMandri had served as first deputy buildings commissioner for three years. He was named as acting buildings commissioner in April, after Patricia Lancaster resigned after pressure over a fatal crane accident and a series of criticisms of how crane inspections in the city had been managed.

New York City rules had required that the buildings commissioner be a professionally certified architect or engineer. The city council voted to change these rules, allowing LiMandri to be confirmed in the position, last Thursday.
