The crane has been modified to be safe to use in potentially explosive areas, in line with European ATEX standards.

Explosion proof cages have been fitted to high power systems such as the engine. A failsafe system has been used to limit the stored energy in electrical circuits. Solenoids and electrical circuits have been sealed to prevent sparking.

The transformation of the crane meant some parts had to be replaced. These included the slip-ring connector, all of the lamps, the battery the emergency button in the cab, the windscreen wipers, the ignition key, and all of the crane’s wiring. Inside the cab, four analogue gauges and the switch-off battery have been eliminated.

Locatelli says it can apply the same level of flameproof protection to all of its cranes on request.
