Valvoline’s Premium Blue Extreme is a new engine oil that has benefits for heavy duty fleet applications. The synthetic oil has the potential for drain intervals up to 100,000 miles in certain situations, Valvoline claims. Fuel economy savings over conventional oils are also claimed.

Cummins has tested the new oil in its EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) engines, a type that is becoming the new standard, and Valvoline says it can cope with the added stress levels now imposed on engine oils. Soot particle build up is dealt with by something called Dispersive Polymer Technology to prevent clogged filters and keep oil flowing properly.

EGR engines run at higher temperatures which can lead to carbon build up and Premium Blue Extreme is designed to help with heat transfer to increase engine durability. Viscosity range is from SAE 5W to SAE 40 for operation at temperature extremes.
