Japanese crane manufacturers Kato Works and Tadano have both reported further losses for the financial year to 31 March 2000.

Kato made a net loss of ¥2.62bn (US $25m) on sales of ¥35.2bn ($328m). In the previous year it made a net loss of ¥1.1bn on ¥43.5bn sales.

Tadano made a net loss of ¥2.4bn ($22m) on sales of ¥61bn ($570m). In 1999 it made a net loss of ¥1.2bn on sales of ¥73.1bn.

Japanese industry has been hit hard in recent years. Three years ago, in fiscal 1997, Kato had sales of nearly ¥72bn and Tadano had sales of ¥108bn.

For this year, Kato forecasts sales to remain steady, while Tadano expects sales to rise to ¥64bn.
