For this job the most complex configuration which this high-tech crane has to offer was required: 55 meter main boom, telescopic extension, 90 meter luffing fly-jib and the Y-suspension. The main boom with Y-suspension was hauled to the job site by a separate transportation vehicle. By its self assembly system the boom was attached to the slewing platform.

The first five lifts at the radio tower had been carried out by use of the shorter 54m-long fly-jib. Gross loads of up to 67t had been lifted to a height of 112m. Then 9.5t segments were hooked on to the luffing fly-jib. The fly-jib was extended to a length of 90m. The 13m x 13m supporting base, 202t of counterweight and Y-suspension at 45 degrees ensured sufficient stability.

Mammoet crane drivers Bart Tonen, Arian Klabwyk and Gerrit Blokland said they were satisfied. “The cornering is super,” they said of the 96t vehicle in transport configuration.

The LTM 11200-9.1 has a maximum lifting height of 188m. The job in Amsterdam took 16 truck loads in addition to the crane carrier. “Roughly five trucks less than necessary for a crawler crane with a comparable configuration,” reckons Mammoet leader of operation Kees Herrijgers.
