The G HMK 6407 will be delivered to ICG’s Belfast Container Terminal (BCT) operation at the Port of Belfast in the coming weeks. The G HMK 6407 can lift up to 100t, has a working radius up to 51m and can hoist at speeds of up to 90m/min. ICG’s G HMK 6407 will also be equipped with a spreader.
The mobile harbour crane has been ordered to help improve container handling efficiency and throughput rates at BCT. “The new G HMK 6407 has a higher capacity than the port’s existing handling equipment with a longer outreach, enabling larger vessels to be discharged,” said Alec Colvin, BCT’s general manager.
“In addition to having improved performance, the crane can also be connected to an external power supply and this will help the port to achieve its environmental targets of lower CO2 emissions and reduced operational noise due to the crane’s capability of connecting directly into the harbour mains supply.”
The crane is Gottwald’s 13th delivered within Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, but is the first of its Generation 5 range to be operational at an Irish port.
Mark Reardon, Gottwald’s regional director for Northern Europe, said: “The UK and Ireland region has been one of the most successful markets for Gottwald in recent years and the delivery of this, the 79th crane within this region, is a very good result coming only four years after the 50th crane was delivered.”
