Avenue Building Corporation has been using an 18-tonne capacity Raimondi LR273 since Q4, 2023, on a prestigious high rise construction project in downtown Toronto, Canada, called 8 Elm. Once complete it will feature over 800 residential units and several retail spaces.

When installed the crane was configured to operate free-standing on a staging slab at ground floor level. It’s currently at a height of 54 metres with a jib length of 50m.

The LR273 is equipped with 86kW hoisting gear. It lifts at a maximum speed of 204 metres per minute and has a drum capacity of 980m.

“We opted for purchasing this specific model not only for its excellent load capacity and precision but also for its adaptability to challenging urban environments,” said Jim Patullo, president of Avenue. “Considering the logistical and technical challenges presented by the site’s unique position, another key specification was the ease of installation of the weight-optimised machine.

“The LR273 had to be erected in extremely tight confines, with the staging slab positioned above the parking levels that were simultaneously being excavated.”

For this project Avenue deployed one of its  seven Raimondi LR273 cranes to support Capital Development, the project’s developer.

It has also provided a second Raimondi LR273 for another of the developer’s high-rise developments in the city, another mixed use high-rise called Olive Residences, which has now reached completion and where the crane will soon be dismantled.
