The two Liebherr 125 HC-L 6/12 Litronic luffing jib tower cranes are being used by Thai Obayashi to construct the 33-storey Park Ventures office and hotel tower in the city’s central business district.

The confined corner site is 0.8ha in size, and is bound on two sides by high-rise buildings and by busy streets on the other two sides. The BTS Skytrain also runs along one side. The finished building will have a built area of 81,400 sq m and is scheduled for completion in September 2011.

Both cranes are standard units that can lift 12t at a maximum radius of 50m. The cranes can operate with raised jib angles between 15-70°. They have been erected on 1.6 x 1.6m masts.

Tight site

Construction of the foundations has been completed, allowing Thai Obayashi to erect the cranes in September and October 2009. One Liebherr 125 HC-L 6/12 Litronic has been erected in a lift shaft, with the other in the lift lobby. Both Liebherr 125 HC-L 6/12 Litronics will grow with the building to an eventual height of 150m.

This project is the first time Thai Obayashi has purchased Liebherr tower cranes, which have been supplied by Liebherr’s Thai distributor STIT Company Ltd.

“This was a major decision for Thai Obayashi, as it means a lot of retraining and changes to their spare parts inventory,” said STIT’s deputy managing director Sompoch Rattana Areeyagon.

“They had previously been using another brand of crane but decided to make the change largely on the basis of the service supplied by Liebherr and STIT.”

The cranes were delivered to STIT’s compound in July 2009 in order to allow training of operators and service personnel.
