Manitowoc Cranes has brought out a luffing jib attachment for its 90t-rated 222 Series B crawler crane that offers boom-plus-jib combinations of up to 96m (315ft).

According to the 2000 edition of the comprehensive Cranes Today 2000 Handbook, now available (for details, see p11), that appears to make it the longest reaching construction crane in its class.

The basic boom + luffing jib combination is 16.8m + 15.2m. In this configuration it can lift 31.7t.

The combination offering maximum main boom length is 44.2m boom + 18.3m luffing jib. Longest luffing jib arrangement is 35.1m main boom + 45.7m luffing jib.

Mounting a fixed jib on the end of the luffer gives the maximum reach of 35m + 42.7m + 18.3m (96m). Manitowoc says that in this configuration the 222B can lift 3.2t at a radius of 22.9m.

Manitowoc will launch the new luffing jib attachment at the Intermat exhibition in Paris in May.
