Operational since May, the first job for Sarens’ new Mannesmann Dematic CC 2800 crawler was a dual lift to remove a 200t conveyor from a chemical plant in southern Belgium. The crane is the first of two of the new models ordered by the Belgian rental company.

The CC 2800 had 66m of main boom, 180t of counterweight and 60t central ballast. As part of the first stage of the project it lifted 96.5t at 53m radius in a dual lift with the second crane, a CC 2600, which lifted 118t at 38m radius.

The CC 2600 then moved backwards with the load while the CC 2800 boomed up to 18m, at which stage the superlift could be detached. It was then able to move backwards and boom out to 20m while the CC 2600 slewed to follow with the load.

Booming up to 15m allowed the superlift to be removed from the CC 2600, and the CC 2800 followed while slewing. Both cranes, neither now with superlift, slewed to place the load into its final position.
