Four new heavy lift vessels join the Mammoet fleet during 1999 and 2000. They are similar to the Graig-Clipper type built at the Zonghua Shipyard in Shanghai but are each being fitted with two 275t-capacity cranes, to be made by Huisman-Itrec.

To be named Tramper, Trader, Transport and Traveller, they will compete at the lower end of the heavy lift market. When they come into service, Mammoet plans to phase out older vessels, maintaining its fleet at about 12 to 15 units. The Tramper-type vessels are the second phase of Mammoet’s fleet renewal. Four Happy River-type vessels, each with a pair of 400t cranes, were introduced in 1997 and 1998.
